Momently's Report Builder complements the content dashboard in helping publishers understand how their content performs over time. In addition to our pre-built site, section, and author report templates, Report Builder gives you complete freedom to create custom reports with the metrics, filters and breakdowns you need to evaluate and measure the success of your unique goals.
Momently Reports are made up of individual report cards. Depending on the type of the report card, you can customize the card by inputting a combination of:
Metrics: the actual data point that you’re interested in seeing: visitors / pageviews / engaged time
Filters & breakdowns: a certain segment that you want to focus on in your reports
- Traffic properties such as referrer, country, device, visitor loyalty, etc
- Content properties such as author, section, post title, content lifecycle, etc.
- Audience behaviour such as time spent, scroll depth, click through rate, etc.
Gourp by: how you want to organize the data that’s returned to you; you can group your data by page path, referrers, authors, sections, campaigns, or country
Sort order: how to sort the data that’s returned to you; see a list of top, rising or falling items
To get you started, let’s look at a question that editors commonly ask every week:
Over the past week, which articles had the highest engagement, and how do they compare to last week?
With Report Builder, you can either start with bre-built templates or form scratch. In this example, we start from scratch, setting title, delivery time and frequency.
Once the draft is created, we start populating the report by adding the first report card:
- card type is set to List
- average engaged time is selected as the primary metric
- list is grouped by page path
- limit is set to 10 - this could go up to 50 items as needed
- and finally list sort order is set to top
Below we can see the top pages that had the highest engagement from last week, showing exactly how much time each received and how significant was their jump/drop in engagement.
But why stop there? Let's add another card with type set to "histogram" and metric to "engaged time" to see the distribution of audience engagement over pageviews.
What other reports can I make?
Report Builders' functionality is as limitless as your imagination - you can create any number of report cards depending on what you want to know.
Want to know how your latest published post is compared to other posts on their first day? Select the Lifecycle card and plug in the time period you want to evaluate.
Want to track the audience's internal navigation path from the home page? Select the List card, plug in the metric you want to evaluate, group by page path, and add a filter with previous path set to '/'.
You'll get a historical look at how people are navigating from page to page on your site and see how much time they spent there.
Notice any trends or connections between the content? Use this data to adjust your link strategy; change the way you link your content together to optimize click through rate and keep your readers engaged and likely to come back.
What else can I do with this tool?
You can easily share reports with anyone in the team - schedule author reports to be sent out to them on a weekly basis, send the daily site overview to your editors, or send the monthly mobile-desktop breakdown to your dev team. With recurring reports, you and your colleagues can receive those reports at automated intervals, right in your inbox.
